Does God Answer Prayers?

I read over 2000 true stories to select 101 for Chicken Soup for the Soul, Answered Prayers. From those amazing, inspirational stories I learned that God does always answer prayers…with, “Yes,” “ No,” or “Not Now.”

If you are like me, I had determined that if I didn’t get what I was praying for, my prayer was unanswered. What I’ve come to believe is that, “No,” was the answer…the best answer.

Years ago there was a country western song titled, Thank God for Unanswered Prayers. The singer looked back on his life and thanked God he didn’t get the girl he had prayed for! Have you reflected back on the course of your life and been grateful that you didn’t get what you thought was the best for you? Have you thanked God for unanswered prayers, where, “No,” had been the right answer?

I’ve learned (the hard way) that many of my so-called unanswered prayers were really answered by, “Not now. I have a better idea.” It took me too long to realize that delay is not denial. Delay is actually the wonderful, all-loving restraint of God, not reluctance, not desire to deny me of my request, but to delay it for a better plan. Delay is not denial or withholding, but the opportunity for God to work out our problems and accomplish our desires in the most wonderful way possible for us.

What a loving Great Friend.
